OPEN SOURCE DESKTOP EMAIL

A tidier inbox on your desktop.

Mailaxe is an email client for Windows and Linux based on Aerion. It keeps everything Aerion does and adds optional tweaks to the message viewer and the message list. Your mail stays on your computer, with no analytics, telemetry or ads.

What Mailaxe adds

  • Collapse quoted text

Previous messages quoted in a reply stay behind a small ••• button.

  • Messages grouped by date

Headers such as Today, Yesterday and This week split up the message list.

  • Undo send

A 6-second countdown, which you can adjust, lets you undo a message or send it right away.

  • Account color strip

In the unified inbox, each account's color runs down the side of the row instead of showing as a dot.

  • Quick actions on hover

Archive and Delete buttons appear when you hover over a message in the list.

  • Checkboxes on demand

A toolbar button shows or hides the selection checkboxes for every row.

All of these are on by default and can be turned off in Settings.

Before you install

  • Windows

Available as an installer or a portable version. Builds are not code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn you the first time: choose "More info" and then "Run anyway".

  • Linux

Available as a binary in a tar.gz archive. It needs webkit2gtk-4.1.

  • Email accounts

Any IMAP/SMTP account works right away. Builds do not include OAuth credentials, so Gmail needs an app password or your own OAuth client, and Microsoft accounts usually need your own OAuth client. See the setup guide.
